Research and Economic Development
Nebraska is ranked in the top tier of national research universities and has achieved significant research growth – nearly tripling research expenditures over the past two decades. The University’s growth in economic development surged with the 2015 opening of the new Nebraska Innovation Campus, designed to attract private-sector research partners.
The University’s research expenditures totaled $295 million in FY2016. An institutional goal is to exceed $300 million in research expenditures by 2018.
The Vice Chancellor collaboratively leads and develops new programs and research directions to enhance the University’s contribution to new knowledge, innovative R&D partnerships and the national standing of the University. S/he strengthens links with the external community in national and international arenas.
